Dark Peak Data Co-op, reporting in

Hi all,

After seeing the Librehosters talk at FOSDEM, I was motivated to submit a PR on behalf of Dark Peak Data to add our self-hosting co-op to the librehosters directory [0]

In case you missed it I also gave a talk at FOSDEM about our organisation [1] Unfortunately there was a problem with the feed multiplexer in our auditorium so my slides are missing from the video, but I made them available here if you want to follow along [2]

I notice there is a “Mailing list mode” setting on this forum. Does anyone know if I can reply by email if I enable this setting? I prefer mailing lists so I don’t have to remember to check back on forum threads (or leave the comfort of my mail client

BTW I am mbooth on Freenode so probably the best way to reach me is in #librehosters or #darkpeak

Regards,
Mat

Yes, too bad we could not take some time together. I don’t know how comes the speakers came at the last moment and didn’t stick together or exchanged contacts with the organizers, it would have been simpler. Thank you for introducing DPDC. Would you say more than you did in your presentation about the processes, difficulties or time-savers you found while making it happen?

Yes, this category responds to welcome at libreho.st and you can indeed reply by email to existing topics.

One of the things that turned out to be quite important is making sure we regularly set aside some time to work on the project, it is none of our day jobs, after all. These days we have regular “Co-op Days” once a month where we get together in person or on IRC to collaboratively work on services, discuss direction, or have a general meeting as required by the articles of the co-op.

Having a meeting, in person or in IRC, always recharges my enthusiasm so I end up getting things done over the following days too

Also having a issue tracker. It was quite difficult for a long time to keep on top of all the problems that needed working on. Now we have a issue tracker and can properly schedule stuff for our next co-op day or general meeting – it really helps for coming up with agenda and work plans so we don’t end up wasting our precious few co-op days deciding what it is we should work on.
